Descending into the world-famous caves enjoy the world-famous boat ride as you marvel at the thousands of tiny glow-worms and the wondrous display as they radiate their luminescent lights. On the return journey, we stop at the rural township of Otorohanga to view our iconic national bird, the Kiwi at the Otorohanga Kiwi and Native bird sanctuary.

An early start from the Port, we travel over the Kiamia Range into the Waikato region through arguably New Zealand’s best farmland, dairy farms, horse studs, and hydro dams – plenty to see on this trip! Arriving at the Glow Worm Caves your cave guide will take you on a magical boat ride on the underground river through prehistoric caves that resemble a fairytale world as you silently glide through the starry wonderland. Deep in the cavern, you will view ancient stalactites, stalagmites, and eroded columns. Your guide brings you up close to glowworms, elaborate cave formations, underground rivers.

They explain the ancient myths, legends, sacred Maori sites and history associated with the caves. On the return journey, we stop at the rural township of Otorohonga to view our iconic national bird, the Kiwi at the Otorohanga Kiwi and Native bird sanctuary Here you will see three of the five kiwi species – the Brown Kiwi, the Little Spotted Kiwi and the Great Spotted Kiwi. Get up close with the large collection of NZ birds and reptiles, and walk through New Zealand’s largest free-flight dome aviary. A day of wonderful memories of your holiday in New Zealand.
