 On the return journey, we stop at the rural township of Otorohanga to view our iconic national bird, the Kiwi at the Otorohanga Kiwi and Native bird sanctuary.

An early start from the Port, we travel over the Kiamia Range into the Waikato region through arguably New Zealand’s best farmland, dairy farms, horse studs, and hydro dams – plenty to see on this trip! Arriving at the Glow Worm Caves your cave guide will take you on a magical boat ride on the underground river through prehistoric caves that resemble a fairytale world as you silently glide through the starry wonderland.

Deep in the cavern, you will view ancient stalactites, stalagmites, and eroded columns. Your guide brings you up close to glowworms, elaborate cave formations, underground rivers. They explain the ancient myths, legends, sacred Maori sites and history associated with the caves.

On the return journey, we stop at the rural township of Otorohonga to view our iconic national bird, the Kiwi at the Otorohanga Kiwi and Native bird sanctuary Here you will see three of the five kiwi species – the Brown Kiwi, the Little Spotted Kiwi and the Great Spotted Kiwi.
